Can you imagine the surprise in approximately 2737 B.C., Chinese Emperor Shen Nung realize that when dried leaves blew into his cup of hot water, it made the first cup of hot tea? This beverage became famous and would be the drink experienced around the world. The emperor was so impressed with the pleasing aroma and uplifting taste, he had everyone around him sipping tea. From there it just spread.

Leave it to a visiting Buddhist priest from Japan who just happened to be in China when tea was catching on. Yensei, the Buddhist priest returned to Japan bringing tea to the masses. Tea was an instantaneous success and was implemented by the Japanese society.

Over 70% of the tea we sip today are grown on Tea Estates in Sri Lanka, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Argentina and China. The greatest climates for growing tea are those that are tropical or semi-tropical in nature. Tea can be cultivated on land where nothing much else can grow. Today there are three basic types of tea: black tea, oolong tea, and green tea and from these three types spring over 3,000 cultivated diversity. The tea leaves are not picked ahead of their time and once harvested; they are packed down to start the oxidation process.
